I learned that Creating a display in the Wax Museum requires a team of artisans, working in concert. The "star" of the team is the Sculptor, who must posses an artist's critical eye and steady hand, an inventor's imagination and patience, plus a variety of handyman skills. The Sculptor begins this painstaking project armed with photographs and actual measurements of the subject and a common lump of clay. Employing his unique talent for capturing the look and feel of life, a perfectly proportioned likeness begins to emerge. A special needle is used for the tedious, time consuming job of inserting the human hair---one strand at a time., including eye brows, lashes and any facial hair that is required. Each wax figure is estimated between $10,000 to $25,000, depending on the complexity, characteristics and research material available on the subject. Some celebrities actually donate their clothes for their sculptures to wear.

One specific work that attracted me was the King Tutankhamen wax figure. This is an exhibition that takes place together with Queen Ankhesenamen, Boy King, High Priest, Howard Carter, and Lord Carnarvon. This exhibition is interesting to me because nothing can be more intriguing than the Pharaoh's life and the secrets they hid for centuries.

Part 2:

1)Antonio- I learned that there is an exhibition of King Tut. At the De Young Museum in San Francisco. The exhibition will remain there from June 27, 2009 through March 28, 2010. It contains 50 burial objects found in his burial site.

2)Valerie- I learned that the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco is a main focus for traveling exhibitions, and is one of the few places in the US to hold exhibits such as the Samurai exhibit due to its outstanding reputation.

3)Tamika- I learned about the laces and that there aren't that many museums about laces. All the workers are volunteers. And I like her pictures of the Battenberg Lace.

4)Stephen- I learned that Current exhibitions at Autry National Center of The American West include Sparkle and Twang, an exhibit promoted by country singer Marty Stuart and his personal experiences with many famous country, bluegrass, and folk singers, that features art, instruments, outfits, and music notes that were collections of famous artists like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

5)Sophia- I learned that The museum of Latin American Art has a permanent collection of over 800 pieces which occupies half of the gallery, presenting artists from all over the continent.

6)Raquel- I learned that Raquel chose the same Museum as Antonio and that just like him she thought that, "maybe the most exciting exhibit is "Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of Pharaohs." And I agree with them, cant wait to go there!

7)Michael- I learned that The exploratorium was one of the first museums to build a website, and has been online since 1993.

8)Megan- I learned that she liked the picture of the twin towers and that by reading more she found out that it was the reflection of two buildings in an icy puddle.

9)Mario- I learned that there is a National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago , Illinois; and I didn't know there was one. I also learned that its the only Latino Museum accredited by the American Association of Museums. I also learned that Miguel Cordero painted many saint and among them the Virgin of Guadalupe.

10)Laurel- I learned that about Rip rap. Liked the poem. =D

Week 5

Part 1:

I chose the Louvre museum in Paris, France. I chose it because I have always wanted to go to Paris and Versailles. I was looking online to see if i could find any interesting museums and I came across this magnificent one. This museum has a long history and some of the most famous works of art in the world! The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 60,600 square meters (652,000 sq ft) dedicated to the permanent collection.

What I learned from the background information was that the Louvre was established in 1793 in 17001 Paris, France. It is an Art Museum, Design/Textile Museum, and a historic site. There is more than 8 million visitors a year, and therefore this is the most famous and visited museum in the world. It also is the most largest museum in Paris. As of 2008, the collection is divided among eight curatorial departments; Egyptian Antiquities; Near eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculptures; Decorative Arts; Paintings; and Prints and Drawings. The Louvre signifies a fortified place, according to the French historian Henri Sauval(1623-1676). During the French Revolution the Louvre was transformed into a public museum. In May 1791, the Assembly declared that the Louvre would be, "a place for bringing together monuments of all the sciences and arts. The museum has been renewed many times due to bad structure because of old age. They take in many artifacts and paintings from different museums across the world for a while and then they return the. it would be amzing to see this place. There are many hallways and many rooms that you there is no way you could see everything in one day.

One specific work that attracted me is the Mona Lisa. Everyone likes the mona Lisa and they know who she is but I felt as if I dont really know a whole lot abbout her. That is the reason why i was interested in it. She is also known as La Gioconda. It is a 16th century portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance. The work is owned by the government of France and is on the wall in the Louvre in Paris, France with the tittle portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo. It is perhaps the most famous painting in the world. The painting is a half lenght portrait and depicts a women whose expression is often described as enigmatic. The ambiguity of the sitter's expression, the monumentality of the half figure composition, and the subtle modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the painting's continuing fascination. it is probably the most famous painting that has ever been stolen from the Louvre and recovered. Few other works have been subject to as much scrutiny, study, mythologizing, and parody. I also learned that Davici loved this painting very much and had it with him for a really long time. Her lips were slightly open and that showed a sign of elegance at the time. this was achieved using one of Davinci's techniques, where he used shading.

Part 2:

1) Antonio-He wrote extensively about the banking concept of education.

2) Michael-He mentioned his famous book Pedagogy of the oppressed.

3) Mario-He said, "Freire passion and his wisdom for helping people, and teaching methods to teaching illiterates, employing visual materials to teach them about self-perception and community problems. this man is a dreamer in helping people, and communities.."

4) laurel- She said, "The goal of education should be learning how to learn; using critical thinking and self-evaluation to determine your own identity and how it relates to the world around you."

5) Dinlaka- I like that she said, "He did not try to hide that he studied, and did take some of the ideas into developing his own theories and tools. But he strongly denied that, while he was influenced by some useful and truthful aspects, it did not make him an Anti-Christ." in her own words.

6) Megan-She mentioned that it looks like there is a pattern with many of our great leaders.

7) Kyle-Thinks that another key idea in his work is how he integrated a democratic system into his education process.

8) Christine-Said that Paulo Freire is among the most influential educational theorist in the 20th century.

9) Raquel-She incorporated visuals to her blog, which is nice!

10) Kimmie-Believes his approach to changing the system of education is something that indeed
can make a notable difference of all humanity being given the opportunity to learn in a positive environment.
